Bird Watching
The Vallarta Botanical Gardens attract a wide variety of Mexican bird species and migratory visitors throughout the year. We’ve included food plants and bird feeders across the site to create a haven for the birds and an exciting destination for bird watching enthusiasts.
Photos of our Birds
To date over 265 different species of birds have been spotted in the Vallarta Botanical Gardens.

- Your Bird Watching Can Support Citizen Science
Our visitors are important contributors to citizen science, as you can help us conduct population surveillance and monitor biodiversity. We invite you to tag your sightings of birds, bugs, and plants alike on iNaturalist, using the label XXXX. For birds only try eBird, using the label “Jardín Botánico Vallarta, Cabo Corrientes, MX”.
We’d also love for you to share your birding adventures on social media! When posting photos, please mention the Jardín Botánico de Vallarta or Vallarta Botanical Garden, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in your tags and locations.
- Responsible Birding Practices
Please follow these guidelines when on the lookout for our feathered friends
- Birdcall Apps are always forbidden.
- Be respectful of birds, especially when at their nests and feeders, by keeping an appropriate distance (6-10 m) and limiting your time near them.
- Use a telephoto lens to help maintain your distance when photographing. This will also allow birds to continue behaving naturally and ensure you get the best shots!
- Avoid using flash on your camera as it startles and disrupts the birds.
- Do not use drones to photograph or record birds, especially at their nests, as they can be disruptive and are prohibited here. Drones are always forbidden in the Vallarta Botanical Gardens without advanced written permission.
- Support Bird Conservation
The Vallarta Botanical Garden itself can offer only 8 hectares of habitat for birds. But thanks to the support of donors like you, our Conservation in Action has secured an additional 100+ hectares of nearby untouched forestlands.
We manage these lands as protected areas that are set aside for biodiversity, ensuring habitat-destroying development never takes place. Your charitable contribution today to this program can make further land purchases possible, can help us prevent illegal encroachment on our current lands, and can help us to track species’ health across the area. Thank you for your support!
